Wii The Nintendo Wii was first introduce to the market in late 2006 and was quickly one of the hottest video game consoles ever. The Wii’s name was derived from simplicity. A company spokesperson said, Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.” Most people don’t know that the original name was referred to as Revolution but was later changed. Upon the change of the name to Wii came much criticism, citing that the Wii plays to ‘kidness’. As of June, 2008 Wii’s sales were at nearly 30 million consoles sold in the U.S., Japan, UK, and other regions. The Wii is still in high demand and stores cannot keep them stocked long enough. The worldwide success of the Wii has caught third party developers by surprise, leading to some apologizing for the quality of their early games. Despite some of the critisisms, Wii has gained notoriety for positive things. Wii offers games that allow player to engage in virtualized physical activity. Doctors have even reported muscle injuries from out of shape people playing Wii games like bowling, baseball, and tennis.
